Writing Experience... Our instructors are working writers, writers with varying degrees of success but with a commitment and devotion to improving their craft in pursuit of publication. We understand the trials and tribulations of beginning and novice writers and we can help you overcome the anxiety and frustration that often accompany the early years.
Market Savvy... In addition to teaching you the craft of writing, our instructors are adept at the marketing side of the writing business. We'll bring you up to date on magazine markets, online markets, query letters, book proposals, finding an agent, and getting published.
You should be a novice or intermediate writer with a work-in-progress and either a) a commitment to publishing your work in the foreseeable future, b) a commitment to improving your writing skills now, or c) preferably both.
Your Workload... Each week during the workshop you'll be expected to a) read material as requested by the instructor, b) complete an exercise based on the reading; and c) submit the exercise for critique by the instructor. Additionally, over the course of the session you will submit two larger pieces of work of up to 20 pages each on a schedule determined by the instructor. These pieces will be critiqued by the full class as well as by one of our faculty. Finally, you'll be expected to critique your fellow students' submissions each week.
Our Commitment is that we will never stretch to accomodate more students than we should; in this way we guarantee you an effective relationship and the best writing instruction we can offer.
Your Commitment... We expect you to take your writing seriously at very least for the duration of the course. Our courses are voluntary experiences; you are here because you want to be. We want to help you maximize the utility of our courses; thus we ask that you apply yourself, turn in assignments on time, and communicate as requested.
